I have to say my experience with the NaNoWriMo is being quite fun. I have written almost 9000 words in four days, that is an awful lot.
And of course I will have to re-read, revise, edit and clean up the finished product but considered I've been back at the shop these two days and all the other things, it's great going.
The reason, I think, is that the whole process is "gamified": you get badges for writing the first 1000 words, and for uipdating your manuscript daily for four days in a row, and for a lot of other things.
There's graphics showing your progress, and all that.
And you start writing, and you of course like what you are doing, and you have a good story and so on, but the idea of getting a new badge, of making that graphic climb a little more, and then showing off... ah!
It's a drug. Literally.
And this gaveme an idea.
Gamification is really powerful, because it works exactly like a drug. It operates on the same areas of the brain, triggering the same reward and gratification system. And you can design a gamification system to push the users in a certain way.
The NaNoWriMo system is designed to push the participants towards the goal of 50.000 words in a month.
And, also, towards buying the merchandise of the challenge, and take advantage of the special offers for the participants.
SO...
Imagine a smartphone app, designed to give a push to the user in a certain direction... like, corrupting innocent young women.
Giving them incentives for smoking, drinking, dress dangerously, doing naughty things...
It would need to be professionally made, with the cute little icons, and the funny colorful badges, and the merchandise and the special offers and the possibility to share your results on your socials. It might start small, with a badge for your first cigarette, or a badge and a discount for make-up, and then subtly get the user in the mood for more experimentation, more deviant behavior...
It's a good idea for a story, an app that turns good girls into bad girls.
Might work for a Quickie.

ooo, my mind is spinning!
ReplyDeleteLet's say it starts this way. Megan is a hard working professional, in her mid-20s. But she is not making much progress in her company and her social life is dead. Guys want what she will not give. One day while eating lunch alone in a trendy restaurant, Megan spots a young woman, who looks vaguely familiar. But it can't be anyone she knows, because this woman is obviously a slut. Seated at a table across the dinning space, the slut is dangling a cigarette from her bright red lips while a stud worships her body with his hands. Megan, while telling herself that this is despicable, can't take her eyes off the show. The slut seems completely at ease with herself, tousling the man's hair occasionally, sipping on a drink, obviously completely in command of the stud. Megan secretly admits that the show is making her hot. Then the slut's gaze falls on Megan, and a flash of recognition shines in her eyes. Pushing the stud off of her, the slut advances toward Megan. Stunned by the vision coming at her, Megan realizes that the woman is the embodiment of a sex goddess, both in her body and even more in her attitude. Arriving at Megan's table, the goddess leans forward, exposing an expanse of cleavage, and in a decidedly sexy voice, says:" Megan, is that you? Remember me, your roommate from college, Rachel."
While Megan's mouth stands agape, Rachel slides next to her, entirely invading Megan's space. Smoke drifts seductively between Rachel's ruby lips and baths Megan's face. Meanwhile , Rachel's exposed leg rubs against Megan's dress, sending shock waves of eroticism into Megan, who is literally stunned into silence. "Like how your old roommie turned out," Rachel says with a mischievous smile. Taking a long drag, Rachel allows Megan to fully take in the creature seated next to her. With measured ease, Rachel crushes out her cigarette, while slowly expelling the smoke in voluminous clouds, enveloping both herself and Megan.
So anyway, Rachel convinces Megan it really is her old roommate, who, after a year or two of living the life that Megan is currently doing, decided to change. She chanced upon the app to do just that. Passing on the app's info, Rachel asks Megan to keep in touch. And so it goes, with Megan sharing with Rachel as she progresses, and Rachel urging her on to ever more slutty life choices.
Just my filthy dreams.
Wow.
DeleteQuite a good start.
I like your filthy dreams!
An app that corrupts women? Sounds intoxicating for a Quickie.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your novel!
Thanks!
DeleteAnd about the Quickie... I'm starting to imagine a series of quickies, each featuring a woman that uses the app differently... Ah, I'll let it rest for a few days, and then see what I can make of it.
